Writing of Policies into Trust

There are few reasons NOT to write a life insurance policy under a trust deed. The principal advantages are:

• There is no need to wait for probate upon death. The benefits under the policy are paid out to the beneficiaries swiftly. (Probate can take months!)

• The use of the trust should avoid the benefits becoming part of the deceased's estate, and hence being assessable to Inheritance Tax. (Approximately 5% of IHT receipts into HM Treasury are from life policies, and are avoidable!)
